Too Much Heat - Thoughts on Vibrato Usage

Too Much Heat - Thoughts on Vibrato Usage

In this first 'Pondering Performance' Series of interviews with established musicians worldwide, classical music reviewer Christopher Halls chats with the highly-respected violinist and conductor Ola Rudner about the use of string and vocal vibrato.

"...going for now, I don't know, for 50 or 60 years onwards, has obviously had a big impact on the thinking about what is vibrato, why do we use it and how do we use it. In the bigger orchestras, it tends not to be so important. One does simply vibrate unless someone tells you not to. There are orchestras that refuse to not use vibrato…so, which you know I would say like this; we have many orchestras in this world and I don't mind if someone, or some of the orchestras sound different from the other. I mean this should be the case." - Ola Rudner
