Conducting Ballet and Opera - Challenges and Rewards

David Levi, the highly versatile and an absolute all-rounder, reveals the challenges and rewards of conducting ballet and opera with renowned musicians worldwide, in the interview by Classical Music Reviewer Christopher Halls.

"It presents very very different challenges. First of all, I generally feel for me personally that having the line or the input of dancers or of singers, in both cases these are things that actually helped me to find that conducting purely symphonic work more difficult because it all has to come somehow from another space whereas when I’m doing theatre work, I have certain objectives and goals that are very practical. You know, someone has to bend down and tie a shoe while they're singing
a phrase, so you have to sort of notice that they're tying their shoe and how they need to breathe for it." - David Levi
