Introduction:

 

Concentrated, with spare gestures, Rudner is precise to perfection, and he was able to conjure the world that only few other conductors would dare to recreate.

A prize winner of the Paganini competition, and assistant of the legendary Sandor Vègh, Ola Rudner worked as a concertmaster/conductor of Camerata Salzburg, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Volksopera Vienna, Vienna SO until 1997. For some years he was also Guest-Professor for violin at the Graz Musikhochschule. 

1995 he founded Philharmonia Wien. Apart from many Concerts in Vienna’s Musikverein, tours in Japan, Italy, Turkey and Austria have followed.

After an invitation to conduct the Queensland SO in 1998, he soon became a guest with all the major Australian orchestras, including Opera Australia, where he has conducted many new productions. 

In 2001 he was appointed Chief Conductor of the Tasmanian SO. 

In Scandinavia Ola Rudner collaborates with most Symphony Orchestras, including the Odense SO, Aarhus SO, Malmö SO, Norrköping SO, Bergen Philharmonic, Iceland SO, Swedish Radio Orchestra and Oslo Philharmonic. 

2003 he was named Chief Conductor of the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento. 

Further guest appearances has followed all over the world: RAI Torino, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro V.Bellini di Catania,Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro lirico di Cagliari, Maggio Musicale Fiorentina, Fondazione Arena di Verona, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos Lissabon, Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, NTO Tonkünstler Orchestra, SWR Stuttgart, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Bremen Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Halle, London Philharmonic, BBC SO, Wiener Symphoniker, Mozarteum Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, Krakow Philharmonic, Polish National Radio SO, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Osaka SO, National SO of Chile, Royal Opera Stockholm, to name a few.

In 2008 he was appointed Chief Conductor of Württembergische Philharmonie, Reutlingen.

In short time he transformed the orchestra into one of Germanys top regional orchestras - well known in and outside Germany. As a result, he regularly took the orchestra on tours to Spain, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Switzerland and Italy, including concert venues like Wiener Musikverein, Liszt Academy Budapest, Tonhalle Zürich, KKL Luzern, Beethoven Festival Warsaw, Palau de la Musica Valencia, Teatro Petruzzelli Bari und Sala Verdi Milano. 

Since 2010 he is regularly going on tour to Japan with the Symphony Orchestra of the Vienna Volksopera. New Year 2022-23 is next.

Ola Rudner conducted many new opera productions in Australia, Austria, Sweden, Italy and Germany. His repertoire includes Mozart’s Magic Flute, Così, Figaro, Titus and Idomeneo, Beethoven’s Fidelio; Verdi’s Il Trovatore and La Traviata; Rossini’s Barbiere, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Bizet’s Carmen and operettas by Offenbach, Strauss, Lehar and Kalman. 2019 he conducted a very successful new production of L’Elisir d’amore in Verona.

Together with writer Angelika Messner he made a hugely successful modernised version of H.Berté’s operetta “Dreimäderlhaus”, premiered at  Landestheater Linz 2020.

He has recorded for BIS, Harmonia Mundi, Australian label ABC Classics, Camerata Tokyo, Amadeus, Venice Channel (DVD – HD). With the Württembergische Philharmonie he has recorded “Romantic Overtures”, Mendelssohn’s 3rd, 4th and 5th Symphonie and works by Grieg (Holberg suite) and Lars Erik Larsson (Pastoral suite) for ARS Productions. For Antes Edition he recorded Eduard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suites, for CPO Sgambati’s 2 Symphonies. 

Ola Rudner has an extensive repertoire ranging from Bach to contemporary composers like Ferran Cruxient or compatriot Rolf Martinsson who also dedicated a piece to Rudner and his Orchestra. His special attention concerns the interpretation of the classical repertoire from Haydn to Brahms and Bruckner for which he has received highest critical acclaim.

He is the receiver of the Order of Merit for services rendered to the Republic of Austria. For his outstanding musical work in Australia, he has been awarded the "Centenary Medal”.
